Adam Jarzmik returns with A Piece of a New Day – the most personal, mature, and emotionally honest project in the history of his quintet. Founded in 2016 by the pianist and composer, the ensemble has consistently developed its own musical language based on a modern sound, collective interaction, and a deep respect for the jazz tradition.

The new album is the result of the past several years – a period marked by global uncertainty, pandemic isolation, a war unfolding just beyond the border, and one of the most intimate experiences in human life: the birth of a child. It is at the intersection of these contrasting emotions that this music was created. Rather than describing the world directly, it reaches its emotional core.

The album’s eight original compositions form a remarkably cohesive and evocative narrative about finding light amidst chaos, about silence stronger than words, and about the kind of attentiveness that allows us to hear more. The music of the Adam Jarzmik Quintet balances energy and subtlety, improvisation and carefully crafted space. It is modern jazz, deeply rooted in emotion, storytelling, and the sound of the ensemble functioning as a single living organism.

An important aspect of the album is also its symbolic dimension. The cover artwork – a surreal “transplant” of a piano into a human head – becomes a metaphor for transcending language and surrendering to pure sound. Here, music no longer attempts to describe reality. It simply exists – present, pulsating, and true.

A Piece of a New Day is not a linear story, but rather a collection of emotional states and tensions. It documents a journey from anxiety and uncertainty toward acceptance, gratitude, and inner light. The album impresses with the maturity of its compositions, its organic ensemble sound, and an extraordinary awareness of space and silence. This is music that requires neither excess words nor effects – it speaks through emotional intensity, authenticity, and the profound connection between the musicians.

Since its inception, the Adam Jarzmik Quintet has earned recognition at major jazz festivals in Poland and abroad, including Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa, Jazz nad Odrą, and the Getxo Jazz Festival. A significant milestone in the band's development was its collaboration with New York guitarist Mike Moreno, documented on the acclaimed album On The Way Home.

A Piece of a New Day represents a natural yet highly distinctive step forward in the ensemble’s artistic evolution. It is an album about relationships, presence, and the shared experience of a moment. Music that does not simply speak to the listener, but invites them into its own space.
